Description : The name duiker is an
Afrikaans word for "diver," this
small antelope has red-brown, grey, black or bluish fur and
minimal markings. The Yellow backed Duiker, (C. Sylvicapra), is the largest of the Duiker.

Horns : Blue D - both
males and females have horns, which are short and straight, pointing
backward. Grey D - males only, about 18 cm long.
Food : Omnivores. Blue D - fruits, flowers, insects,
shrubbery, fungi. Grey D - foliage, fruit, seeds, lizards, rodents,
birds, resin and bark.
Habits : The
animals are numerous but shy and rarely seen. Solitary. Blue Duiker pair
for life. Diurnal lifestyle. Monogamous. Grey D - Mostly
nocturnal, usually seen on the move in the early morning or evening in scrub country or in
woodland. It has a
very characteristic way of running in a zig zag fashion interspersed by plunging leaps.
Young : All born in thick cover. Blue Duiker - Calving in dry
season, usually 1 calf per year, (sometimes 2 to 3). Maturity on 3
years. Gestation period 4 months. Grey D - 2 calves per year. Gestation
period - 5 months. newborn run within 24 hours. Maturity just over 6
months.
Predators : Leopards, Hyena,
Lion, Caracal, Jackal,
crowned hawk eagles, Baboon, snakes.
